our story

Fifteen years ago, Dance Moms was introduced into a world that was not-so pyramid shaped yet... except for Egypt. Almost a preteen lifetime later, four lifelong fans: James Stryska, Isabel Grace, Erica Molfetto, and Molly Russo found themselves still heavily influenced by the show and its impact. And in true narcissistic fashion, they asked the obvious question:

what if "dance moms" was a musical?

Originally conceived by James and Isabel in 2020, the idea began with one viral video that laid it out simply: "We think Dance Moms should be a musical." After the video gained over 5.6 million views within hours, one thing was very clear: people wanted to see this onstage.

What started as a joke quickly became an original musical: but a viral video is not a show. To build the world audiences would eventually sit inside, book writers Erica Molfetto and Molly Russo came on board to help turn the premise into a full story: characters, plot, structure, and the specific, unhinged comedy that could capture the feeling of watching one of the most iconic reality-TV shows on God’s given earth.

At its heart, The Pyramid: An Unauthorized "Dance Moms" Musical is a love letter not only to everyone's favorite dance studio, but to the relationships help within its blood-encrusted walls; exploring the beautiful depths and nuances of motherhood, ambition, fame, and being a girl with too-tight of a ponytail. What happens when wanting the best for your child becomes wanting to win at any cost?

This show is created by fans, for fans.
